Jon Karlsson

Jon Karlsson is an Icelandic orthopaedic surgeon working at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden.

He defended his PhD-thesis on Chronic Ankle Instablity in 1989 and was appointed Associate Professor of Orthopaedics in Gothenurg in 1990. Jon currently holds the position of full Professorship of Orthopaedics and Sports Traumatology at the Sahlgrenska Academy, Gothenburg University.

An active clinician, with a focus on knee, foot and ankle surgery, Jon is an active researcher. He has mentored 38 PhD students, and is the author of more than 350 peer-reviewed articles, 27 books and more than 100 book chapters.

Jon is active in the field of sports medicine as the Team Physician for IFK Gothenburg. He is the former president of the Swedish Association of Sports Medicine, current secretary of ISAKOS Board of Directors and has served as chairman of the ESSKA Sports Medicine committee. He is currently Editor-in-Chief of Knee Surgery Sports Traumatolgy Arthroscopy, the official clinical journal of ESSKA. He has been the Academic Head of the Orthopaedic Department at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg since 2001.
